UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN - MILWAUKEE

  • Established in 1956 but with a history that dates back to 1885, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee ("UWM") is a public urban research university on the north side of Milwaukee. It is a part of the University of Wisconsin System, is one of two doctoral degree-granting public universities in the state and Wisconsin's second largest university.

  • To combat minor enrollment declines over the past several years, UWM invested $1.2 million in enrollment growth and retention initiatives in 2016–17. Retention is up 1% and international enrollment has grown 51% in the past 5 years.

  • UWM has completed the first phase of a three building, $225 million research complex focused on the so-called STEM fields - science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The first building, the 150,000 square foot Kenwood Interdisciplinary Research Center opened in 2015

  • UW- Milwaukee operates four off-campus residence options with a sum of 1,550 beds, as well as Sandburg Hall, which houses approximately 2,700 students. Sandburg Hall consists of four towers, three of which were originally built in 1970, with the East Tower being added in 2000. North, South and West Tower, which account for 2,166 beds, are slated to receive $33.5 million in state funding to renovate their aging infrastructure over the next three years.
